PROJECT SUMMARY:
Amref Health Africa with its sub partners, Project Hope, Intra Health International, and General Electric (GE) implements the USAID Transform: Health in Developing Regions project. The overall goal of the project is to reduce morbidity and mortality among mothers and under five children in Afar, Benishangul-Gumuz, Gambella and Somali regional states. The project aims to increase the utilization of quality, high impact, reproductive maternal neonatal and child health and family planning services and support the Government of Ethiopia’s overall progress in ending preventable child and maternal deaths.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Graphic designer will be responsible to provide technical support and coordinate all activities related the designing of culturally appropriate project communication materials. S/he will provide support to the Health Communication Advisor and Technical Advisors in the development of external communication materials as well as IEC/BCC materials to be used by the projects review the materials to be ready for printing and production, maintain a bank of easily referenced quality materials. The incumbent will be based in Addis Ababa with frequent travel to the health facilities within the assigned woredas to monitor utilization of IEC/BCC materials, visibility of USAID and Transform HDR/Amref Health Africa and improvement areas that will increase the quality of activities and services.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Create visual concepts, by hand or using computer software, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate project clients and consumers of the message.
§ Through the use of images, text, and color, transform statistical data into visual graphics and diagrams, which can make complex ideas more understandable
§ Provide support and advice to the project staff to ensure that standards expected in all Amref’s communications are met, and ensure awareness of and standardization in use of Amref Health Africa’s branding in all our communication within the country team.
§ Develop and follow up printing descriptions and specification to ensure and control quality with the printing companies.
§ In collaboration with the M&E team and technical leads, Initiate or accompany field visits to intervention areas to collect quality photos, quotes, and materials suitable for success stories and use in the communications work.
§ Support in organizing learning and knowledge sharing events among staffs and externally.
§ Assist the Amref communication manager in preparing written materials for the Transform HDR and translation of any communication materials to local languages.
§ Support program staff with developing, documenting and sharing of best practices, including audio and video materials, with the required quality standard.
§ Assist the M & E team in the preservation of project materials and development of institutional memory.
§ Develop and design project newsletter to communicate project related updates to concerned (internal and external customers) on a regular basis.
§ Advise the project on strategies to reach a particular audience by creating images that convey a message or determine the message the design should portray
§ Liaising with any support staff as needed, operate administrative functions related to printing, and prepare all logistics for events that require high level visibility.
§ Participate in strategy development and assist program heads to develop culturally appropriate project materials for use in implementation.
§ Work closely with program staff at all level to make sure that USAID visibility is not compromised and the branding/marking plan of the project is adhered in all types of communication media.
§ Work with the technical director and responsible thematic area experts to define the type of media outlet and materials.
§ In collaboration with the Health Communication Advisor, manage, follow up and supervise closely the design and production of materials (video, audio, photography, billboards, posters and all printed materials) outsourced to a vendor.
§ Follow up beneficiaries to assess the use of the project materials to improve existing materials or inform new material development.
§ Field test communication materials to improve effectiveness of materials produced.
§ Assess availability of existing MCH materials and customize them to fit into the Transform HDR implementation regions/woredas
§ Follow up reorders and distribution of materials to ensure that there are no stock outs at all times.
§ Assist in managing and executing special events.
Key Competencies
