PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Construction Chief Officer will plan and supervise a wide range of projects from start to finish. The role will plan and coordinate all aspects of the construction process, including hiring contractors and working with engineers, architects and vendors. An excellent Construction Chief Officer must be well-versed and able to coordinate a team of professionals of different disciplines to achieve the best results. The goal will be to ensure all projects are delivered on time according to requirements and without exceeding budget.
Summary:
The CCO is responsible for organising, supervising, and directing all project functions, in accordance with the requirements of the Project Execution Plan, and have the responsibility for handling contractual administration. The project is an industrial and residential combination which includes land developments such as roads and landscaping. In addition, the CCO will ensure that statutory health and safety regulations are observed at all times and that safety is maintained at high standard with all necessary permits and permissions obtained from local authorities.
Responsibilities:
· Responsible for the project from inception to completion
· In depth knowledge of civil works
· In depth knowledge of structures
· Good knowledge about utility requirements
· Checking the scope of work, drawings and necessary permissions from various authorities
· Coordinate with the subcontractors
· To implement paper work procedures to ensure adequate information is given to the related departments
· To ensure works are carried out to the required quality, within the required time frame and as per designs and specifications
· To ensure safety standards are maintained
· To update current project status on daily or weekly basis
· Attend site meetings whenever required
· Planning, prioritizing and managing projects schedule and ensure that projects deadlines are met.
· Prioritizing tasks to ensure that business unit’s overall resources are used effectively and that project deadlines are met.
· Timely reporting of project status to the Management Head
· Identify and resolve operational problems during project execution, commissioning, installation and minimize delays.
· Managing project risk and opportunities
· Negotiate contracts with external vendors to reach profitable agreements
· In-depth understanding project management principles
· Min. 10 years’ experience in similar function
· It would be advantageous to have experience of working in Africa
· Certification in project management (PMI, PRINCE) is a must.
· Familiarity with quality and health and safety standards
· Good knowledge of MS Office
· Flexible attitude
· Entrepreneurial mindset
· Startup experience preferred
· Ability to problem solve by thinking outside of the box
· Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
· Excellent organizational and monitoring skills
· Must be able to work to tight deadlines
· A team player with leadership abilities
· A minimum of 15 years’ management experience
· Experienced change manager
· Good understanding of financial principles
