The Ethiopian Midwives Association is a legally registered, autonomous, and not-for-profit professional association established in 1992 and re-registered under the new civil society proclamation. Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA) operates in all regions of Ethiopia by using and works for the quality of midwifery education and care. The primary goal of EMwA is to contribute towards the reduction of maternal and child mortality and morbidity in Ethiopia, which are the SDGs global initiatives. The mission of the association is to promote and enhance the expansion, performance and status of the midwifery profession through adopting quality and evidence based practices; adhering to the code of ethics and empowering the professionals. To reach its mission, the Association has been implementing many programs and projects over the last decades in different parts of Ethiopia under its four strategic directions: Capacity Building, Advocacy & Representation, Partnership and Resource Mobilization and Research, Monitoring & Evaluation.
To achieve the desired results, Ethiopian Midwives Association would like to hire competent candidate for the In-house Lawyer /Legal Advisor position.
Position summary:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the In-house Lawyer / Legal Advisor shall be responsible for all legal aspects of Ethiopian Midwives Association (EMwA). This may include but not limited to advising on: maintenance and institutionalization of EMwA's legal and contractual arrangement; organizational policy; document retention; filing and registration requirements; labor law; contracts; leases; agreements; and financial transactions. The In-house Lawyer / Legal Advisor will draft, review and help negotiate a wide range of grant, consulting, business and administrative agreements in connection with EMwA's work, as well as ensure compliance with Ethiopian Laws and regulations applicable to an international non-profit organization with headquarter and chapter offices. The In-house Lawyer / Legal Advisor will closely work with the Internal Auditor, HR & Admin Manager, Finance Manager and Program Managers to facilitate his / her tasks.
This position is partime based and subject to available funding. EMwA may terminate employment at any time due to funding, or for any other lawful reason(s).
