Value chains, focus on coffee
As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives. GIZ promotes complex reforms and change processes.
In Ethiopia, GIZ has been working for more than 40 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and on the commission of the Ethiopian government and international donors. GIZ Ethiopia is looking to recruit an economist skilled in value chain analysis and follow up (focus on coffee) for the Biodiversity and Forest programme and its co-financing activities as specified below.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent of this post has the main responsibility for the:
Coordination of the project under the guidance of the head of BFP
Communication with stakeholders of the coffee sector
Analysis of the value chains (focus on coffee value chains)
Capacity building to the people along the value chain
Monitoring and reporting on the overall project’s activities;
The Tasks
Coordination of the project under the guidance of the head of BFP
To inform all stakeholders about the ongoing project
To gather and process all incoming information and share it with the interested stakeholders
To keep contact with involved Unions, traders, official authorities involved in the value chain of especially coffee sector
To keep the contact with all projects working in the domain in Addis Ababa
To coordinate activities in the field
Communication with stakeholders of coffee sector
To be aware of what is being done locally and nationally in the coffee sector
To technically support the activities of actors in the coffee sector in order to achieve the projects objective
Analysis of value chains (focus on coffee)
To analyse the coffee value chain from the production to the client
To identify gaps and bottle necks in this value chain
To address these gaps and try to sort them out to contribute to the “formalisation” of the value chain
Capacity building to the people along the value chain
To assess needs for capacity building
To make a small capacity development strategy
Monitoring and reporting on the overall project’s activities
To establish a monitoring system
To establish a reporting system
To carry out monitoring and reporting
To actively participate in a knowledge management culture
Other responsibilities
To support the administration of the programme management (BFP)
To ensure that the rules and regulations of GIZ are always respected
Qualifications required
Degree in Economy, natural resource management with economic understanding, or related subject;
Minimum of 5 years professional experience in the sector of value chains and communication / improvement along the value chain
Understanding for forest management, and forest landscape restoration
Professional experience in an international NGO or cooperation body or in higher education, or in an executive job;
Have proven communication skills;
Good mastering of the English and Amharic language, Oromifa language is an asset
