Evidences and Best Practices Related to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Ethiopia
1. Organizational overview
Amref Health Africa, the largest African led international organization on the continent, provides training and health services to over 30 countries in Africa. Founded in 1957 as the Flying Doctors of East Africa.Amref Health Africa now delivers preventative, community-based health care. In 1998, it was registered as AMREF Ethiopia and opened its project office in Addis Ababa. Amref Health Africa has been operating in five programs(RMNCH,WASH, CD&NCD,Capacity building, and clinical outreach programs) in Addis Ababa, Afar, Amhara, Oromia, SNNPRS,BenishagunGumeze,Gambella and Somali regions. In addition Amref Health Africa supports training and clinical outreach programs nationally.
Amref Health Africa is implementing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights programmes in various parts of the country. As part of our program initiatives, and with a financial support from DFID through a three year project support in North Shoa Zone Amhara region, currently we are planning to publish evidences and best practices related to improving sexual and reproductive health in Ethiopia. The publication will be a compilation of peer reviewed articles for open access use. The key themes of interest include SRHR service expansion, reducing morbidity and mortality, integration and models. The selected articles and the peer reviewed journal contents will be presented in a forthcoming National Workshop. Participants will be invited from Government Ministries, Regional Bureaus, UN Agencies, Donors, NGOs, Universities and other scientific communities.
Submission Options: Option 1: Scientific research Abstract with background information, methodology, results, conclusion and recommendations; Option 2: Experiences and best practices: The contents of option 2 must include the summary of issue addressed, description of the intervention, project, experience, service and/or advocacy, results of the best practices and lessons learnt and next steps.
2. Objective of the abstract submission
The main objective of the abstract call is to assemble best evidences generated in SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights) and disseminate to the relevant partners at workshop and published it at review journals for further dissemination in order to contribute for improvement of sanitation and hygiene in the urban communities
3. Abstract submission guideline (criteria) or basic submission requirements
The abstract should indicate:
· Name/s, title/s and institutional affiliation/s of author
· The body of abstracts should be no more than 400 words and should include: background, Methods, Results and conclusion and recommendations. Please note that full papers are not required at this stage. Authors of selected abstracts will be communicated to submit full article within one week of notification
· When using abbreviations or acronyms, always spell out the full name or title the first time when referencing, and put the abbreviation or acronym in parenthesis next to it. Thereafter,you can begin using the abbreviation or acronym by itself
· Please proofread your abstract carefully to avoid errors before submission.
· The abstract title should be shown in sentence case and should not exceed 150 characters in length
· Names of all authors must be shown and an abstract must have a presenting author identified.
· Email and telephone contact details of presenting author
· Abstracts must be submitted by email in Microsoft Word or PDF
· The abstract submitted for this purpose should be not published in any national and international journals
· The research papers for review should be conducted in the last four years(2014-2017)
4. Benefits of the authors submitting abstracts

- Certificate of recognition for oral presentation at national workshop
- Transport and perdiem will be covered for authors presenting at national workshop
5. Submission guidelines:
The abstract text should not exceed 400 words. Please note that full papers are not required at this stage. Authors of selected abstracts will be communicated to submit full article (maximum of 3000-4000 words) within one month as of notification. 8. Typical reasons for abstract rejection
· The abstract is poorly written—ideas are not clear, goals are not established, there are grammatical errors etc.
· the content is not relevant to the indicated purpose
· Insufficient data or absence of conclusion
· Poorly written
· Apparent duplication of another abstract submitted to the organization
· Apparent duplication of another published work
9. Abstract review procedures
All submitted abstracts will go through a comprehensive review process. The abstracts are reviewed byinternal committee of subject matter experts as well as an external experts committee of customers and partners who are also subject matter experts.
10. Abstract Selection and Next Steps
You will be notified no later than one week if your abstract has been accepted for the intended purpose through your contact address (email and telephone).The accepted abstracts will be presented at national SRHR research workshop at the presence of relevant partners and experts for further review. The oral abstract presentation will be evaluated to select best three abstracts for awards. All papers presented at national workshop will undergo further manuscript preparation for publications at peer review journals with the support of Amref health Africa until publications.
