Background: USAID’s Feed the Future Ethiopia Value Chain Activity is a five-year program that is part of the US Government’s Feed the Future Initiative and the Government of Ethiopia’s Agricultural Growth Program (AGP-II). This activity functions as the principle contributor to component four of AGP-II, agriculture marketing and value chains, with an overall objective of improving agricultural productivity and commercialization of smallholder farmers in four target regions – Amhara, Oromia, SNNPR and Tigray. The program will work to increase nutrition-sensitive productivity of priority value chains, including maize, coffee, chickpea, dairy, meat and live animals, and poultry.
Job Purpose Summary:
The Social and Behaviour Change specialist will manage the overall nutrition behaviour change activities of the project. It includes the preparation of nutrition SBC strategies and SBC materials in collaboration with other agencies and universities who will be involved in preparing nutrition education materials. Expected to work with the project team to mainstream nutrition in the agriculture value chain activities and with communities to address dietary gaps, and design nutrition interventions tailored education to local needs; Assist his/her supervisor on nutritional and SBC training for project and government staff and other stakeholders and works with other team members of IMC.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
• BSc degree or higher in Education in Public Health, Social Work or Health Education and 5+ years of relevant nutrition-focused work experience.
• At least 5 years of experience implementing and managing Nutrition education and behaviour change projects at the community level;
• Strong experience in training and mentoring;
• Gender designing and implementing gender-sensitive programming
• Experience in community mobilization, community based nutrition programming and linking nutrition with agricultural activities
• Experience working in chronic underdevelopment settings where both acute malnutrition and stunting are significant issues of public health concern,
• Ability to take initiatives with minimal supervision.
• Proven analytical and problem solving and interpersonal skills, Ability to be flexible, Project start up experience preferred, Good oral and written communication (in English),
• Good writing skills (in English), Strong organizational and supervisory skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
• Ability to write reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, counterparts, MOH, MOA, IMC headquarters office.
• Computer literate; proficient with Microsoft Office software.
