OVERVIEW
Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University. Jhpiego works with health experts, governments, and community leaders to provide high‑quality healthcare for their people. Jhpiego seeks a qualitative research assistant consultant to support the study, “Utilizing All Health System Contacts to Offer Postpartum Family Planning (PPFP) to Pregnant Women and Women within Twelve Months Postpartum in Ethiopia.” The consultant will be responsible for assisting with focus group discussions (FGD) with health development army (HDA) volunteers while maintaining confidentiality of respondents and the information collected, including FGD notes and audio recordings. Research will be conducted in intervention and comparison sites in two woredas of Oromia region in Ethiopia – Hetosa and Lode Hetosa. Training will take place in Addis Ababa.
This activity is a qualitative component of a larger study evaluating how to improve uptake of postpartum family planning among Ethiopian women in the first year postpartum. One objective of the study is to explore HDA members’ use of recordkeeping tools provided by the study to track women’s decision-making and contraceptive use from pregnancy through 12 months postpartum. The qualitative component will focus on exploring perceptions of the utility and feasibility of the various tracking tools.
Focus group discussions with up to 10 HDA volunteers/team leaders per FGD will occur in March 2018, approximately one year after the study baseline was conducted. A total of 6 FGDs will be conducted: 4 FGDs will be held in intervention primary health care units (2 units with 2 FGDs per unit) and 2 FGDs will be held in comparison primary health care units (2 units with 1 FGD per unit).
