Background
As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives.
In Ethiopia, GIZ has been working for more than 40 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and on commission of the Ethiopian government and international donors.
The Ethiopian government recognizes the high economic value of the lowland areas and their products. Therefore, the pastoral and agro-pastoral population is supported in strengthening their drought resilience, allowing them to adapt their farming system to a changing natural and economic environment. German development cooperation participates with the program “Strengthening Drought Resilience of the Pastoral and Agro-Pastoral Population in the Lowlands of Ethiopia” (SDR) in selected areas in Afar and Somali region. Major activities are participatory land use planning with all stakeholders in selected kebeles, water harvesting and rehabilitation of degraded rangeland followed by participatory rangeland management as well as training for pastoralists, administration and service providers.
For its Strengthening Drought Resilience (SDR) program office GIZ is looking for Administrative and Logistical Officer as per the detail below:-
Position: Administrative and Logistical Officer
Place of Work: Addis Ababa

Responsibilities:
As part of the GIZ SDR programme team, the senior logistical officer will be accountable to the GIZ SDR programme manager.
The senior logistical officer is responsible for:
· the fleet management of the GIZ SDR office in Addis Ababa in coordination with the fleet management of the GIZ SDR offices in Afar and Somali region
· coordination of driver and vehicle assignments for missions of the GIZ SDR programme to and within the regions
· maintenance, vehicle inspection and insurance of the GIZ SDR programme’s fleet
· design and coordination of the drivers pool and schedule
Tasks:
Driving
· provides passenger transport in an official car for office, project or programme staff, official visitors and guests
· runs errands for the project, programme or office, e.g. sending letters and messages, paying bills and buying smaller quantities of office supplies
· helps with transporting goods
· prepares the vehicle for heavy duty off-road trips in the lowlands (reserve tyres, repair kit, water, first aid and safety equipment)
· Completes the vehicle log book correctly and conscientiously in accordance with GIZ standards.
Fleet management
· coordinates the management of the fleet and any other logistical tasks on a daily basis
· coordinates the driver pool by designing the driver’s schedule: assigns federal drivers to regional missions based on requests from regional offices, based on requirements of offices and staff policies and in accordance to work-life balance of the drivers
· identifies, organises and follows up on regular and specific training needs of the drivers
· maintains the vehicles, coordinates their annual inspection and renews vehicle insurances according to GIZ standards, rules and regulations
Knowledge management
· uses all available information (including current radio news on traffic conditions) to update daily knowledge of road conditions, current passable routes and locations, and shares this information with other office drivers
· informs the security and risk management office of GIZ of all upcoming missions and receives security clearance for all assigned missions
· reads, understands and follows all regulations with regard to driving and passenger management
· Immediately reports any involvement of an office/program vehicle in any, even minor accidents, or any damage or theft of equipment from the vehicle.
Other duties/ additional tasks
· carries out other office work on request
Qualifications and Experience:
· Bachelor degree in Management, Procurement or similar
· Possession of valid driving license
· Required language skills: Good English in spoken and written, good knowledge of Amharic
· Additional local languages like Afari and Somali are of advantage
· At least 10 years of working experience as logistical officer with references
· Proven experience and training of driving in rural areas and off road areas
· Good knowledge of Afar and Somali region
· Vocational training of car mechanics is of advantage
· Previous job experience with international organizations is of advantage
