The Institute for Peace and Security Studies of Addis Ababa University promotes peace and security in Ethiopia and Africa at large through education, research, and professional development. The Institute invites committed, experienced and competent applicants for the position of Finance Manager.
Accounting
· Supervise the IPSS finance office team members.
o Cash handling and the chequebook and proper recording of signatures.
o Replenishment of cash; that cash is continuously available.
o Issuance of guarantee letters to hotels and other service providers in Ethiopia.
· Ensure the maintenance of a cashpoint;
· Daily posting of journal entries;
· Ensure the proper preparation of vouchers;
· Ensure the proper filing of all vouchers;
· Ensure that general accounting principles are adhered to;
· Keep records of financial movements.
Financial Administration and Management
· Establish a budget for IPSS
o A 3-year planning budget
o An annual budget
· Oversee the budget and cost control in accordance with IPSS’ activities;
· Administer IPSS’ bank account;
· Follow-up on financial commitments;
· Prepare financial reporting;
· Follow-up on tax liabilities and other tax relevant issues;
· Administer the salary process in order to pay staff and contractors accurately and on time;
· Manage any other financial administration related activities.
Development and Implementation of Financial Processes
· Further refine and, if necessary, produce IPSS’ financial policies, procedures and formats consistent with moral and ethical institutional principles of the university.
· Describe financial processes to all staff members and if necessary provide assistance;
· Ensure the functionality and integrity of the accounting system;
· Ensure the legal compliance of all financial processes;
· Ensure quality management through internal and external controls.
· Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Accounting and Financial Management or a relevant discipline;
· A minimum of five years of relevant work experience;
· Demonstrated ability and experience to supervise /guide staff;
· Demonstrated experience in working in a fast-paced environment;
· Excellent interpersonal skills;
· Fluent in English, both written and oral;
· Excellent computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Advanced Excel).
