ROLE PURPOSE:
Reporting to the woreda coordinator and Project Manager, the child protection officer will ensure the implementation of Save the children’s child protection program within Daror IDPs, ensuring that all potential child protection target groups are reached in a safe and protective environment.
Reports to: Project Manager
KEY AREAS OF SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: -
Program implementation; -
· Prepare annual plan, implement and monitor child protection activities and ensure that program objectives and activities are in line with in the context of Save the children, values, aims and objectives.
· Ensure that all IDPs children are benefited from the child protection services and follow up of the day to day activities of Child Friendly Spaces and youth program, follow up the day today activities of child led clubs and community based child protection committees.
· Ensure necessary attention is given to children of concern through the provision of case management, referral services, material and other psychosocial supports.
· Play key roles in coordinating and supervising child protection related activities and in coordination with implementing partners.
· Produce and submit quality and analytical periodic reports to Save the children, government and donor organizations.
· Share information on the progress and challenges of child protection program activity with Save the children program staff and line manager.
· Organize capacity building training for child led clubs, community case workers; youth center facilitators, CFS facilitators, child protection committees and other community structures, community members/representatives, foster parents, and vulnerable children to build their resilience.
· Take measures and recommend directions to improve the quality of child protection works and to maximize the benefit children should get from it.
· Follow up the proper functioning of the facilities availed in the CFS and youth center and elsewhere by Save the children to render services in the principle of value for money.
· Carry out additional tasks as required.
· Carry out monthly child protection meeting at woreda level and ensure stakeholders are participated.
Performance Indicator
· Implementation of child protection and child resilience sessions within the IDPs sites of Daror
· Timely and effective monitoring and evaluation of program activities
· Documentation of structured child resilience sessions.
· Coordination with woreda women, children and youth office and Implementing Partners including IPs with a complimentary role to main stream child protection services.
Qualification and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Social Science and humanities, Psychology, Law or other related fields
· 0-2 years experience in a similar role
· Excellent written and spoken English language skills
· Experience in working in refugee camps in the area of child protection
· Willingness to work in hardship area and to work extra hours (when needed).
· Very good skill in communication
· Very good conceptual understanding of the job
· Strong interpersonal skill and customer handling
Skills and Abilities:
· Ability to work in stressful conditions, with limited social services, sometimes insecure and limited movements
· Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and in a highly results oriented work culture.
· Highly developed interpersonal relationship building and interpersonal skills
· Highly developed verbal and communication skills including fluency in English
· Strong time management and organizational skills
· Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
· High level of attention to details and quality
· Knowledge of local language of the area is a plus
· Computer literacy
