PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Background information:
Development of Food-Based Dietary Guidelines for Ethiopia is an initiative of Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and Wageningen University and Research (WUR) supported by Food Systems for Healthier Diets flagship of the CGIAR- Agriculture for Nutrition and Health Programme coordinated by IFPRI and FAO of the United Nations. The initiative aims to develop evidence–based healthy dietary intake recommendations and develop the first food-based dietary guidelines (FBDGs) for the general population in Ethiopia. This initiative will also strengthen the national capacity to analyse and translate dietary data for better health and nutrition outcomes through guideline development process and policy and program recommendations. The FAO support for the first stages of the process is provided through a European Union funded joint project UNICEF/FAO aiming at improving
“nutrition security and strengthen resilience”. It relates to the programmatic aspects of FBDGs elaboration and implementation; namely to establish multidisciplinary national food-based dietary guideline development committee, support its members’ activities and strengthen their capacity. This project is implemented by Ethiopian Public Health Institute in partnership with Wageningen University and Research and in collaboration with local universities and sector ministries. The advisory committee composed from FAO headquarters, IFPRI, and WUR will provide support to EPHI team and national FBDG developing committee in Ethiopia throughout project implementation.
Main duties and responsibilities:
The Ethiopian Public Health Institute is seeking a senior nutrition consultant to work on the FBDG development project. Under the leadership of the Project Coordinator, the Senior Nutrition Consultant will support and assist the Multidisciplinary National Working Group set up within Ethiopian Public Health Institute to manage the FBDG development project, which first stages are funded by FAO. The senior nutrition consultant deals with all aspects of project administration and financial management: disbursing funds to partner organisations; collating technical and financial information for reporting; liaising with the project funding agency and with partner organisations. The senior nutrition consultant will monitor project development against achievements against proposed work plan and planned milestones and deliverables. It supports the multidisciplinary national working group tasks linked to project activities. It convenes and organizes meetings of the Committee and makes sure decisions of the committee are implemented. It records, writes and disseminates records minutes of meetings of the PMC. It coordinates the organization of public events related to the FBDG development.
