Objectives: The position of Gender in Emergencies Advisor (GiEA) facilitates, coordinates and advocates for the implementation of women’s empowerment (WE) and gender, equity and diversity (GED) programming in humanitarian emergency settings in accordance with international humanitarian standards, CARE International program principles and CARE Ethiopia’s mission and strategic directions. In addition, the GiE Advisor ensures that all CARE humanitarian programming is addressing our response to gender-based violence (GBV), which is a challenge faced by the communities in which we implement projects. The GiE Advisor shall work closely with all technical experts in the Emergency Unit (WASH, Livelihoods, Nutrition, Learning/Design/Measurement) as well as with other sector experts in WASH, Livelihood, Nutrition, Food Security, Monitoring, Learning and Knowledge Management to create coordination and harmonization of CARE’s humanitarian response. S/he will be building the capacity of CARE staff and partners for effective gender program design and implementation, oversee the mainstreaming of gender in all emergency response cycles, and liaise with relevant internal and external actors.

Qualifications (Know How)
Education /Training: Master’s degree in gender studies, social sciences, development studies or related disciplines along with substantial work experience on gender equality and women empowerment programs in emergency context.
Experience: A minimum of five years of demonstrated experiences in humanitarian programming with good understanding of principles of gender equality, women’s empowerment, gender analysis, gender mainstreaming, adult learning and training of trainer’s methodologies.
