One Acre Fund is an International NGO working in collaboration with the Ethiopian government to improve the extension and input supply systems for interventions that can help rural smallholder farmers. We have identified seed supply—increasing quality of available seeds and quantity of certain improved varieties—as a crucial area on which we would like to offer support to the existing governmental and market structures. We are seeking a Project Coordinator/Adviser to take over management of our seed work, which includes support to PCs doing community-based seed multiplication (CBSM) of basic and certified teff, maize, wheat, potato and chickpea seeds as well as marketing methods to increase farmer adoption of improved seeds for those crops and for hybrid maize. You would become part of a modest but growing team, currently based in the Amhara region, which is committed to improving the lives of smallholder farmers in Ethiopia.
Responsibilities of the Position:
Manage the seed project design and implementation
Manage the seed team
You will likely have 2 direct reports who will each lead projects in 1 woreda or woreda cluster
You will lead these direct reports to oversee field team execution and create project materials
Management responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Monitor project impact through data collection and analysis
Duration: Permanent, indefinite contract after a 45 day probationary period
Starting date: April 2018 or as soon as possible
Location: Based at One Acre Fund HQ in Bahir Dar town, with frequent travel to field sites (Yilmana Densa and Dejen woredas in the first year, subject to change in future years). Frequent bus and car travel, to rural sites within 3-4 hours of the core town where you are based will be required, and you should be flexible about staying in woreda towns and possibly rural areas overnight if necessary during a field visit.
Salary & Benefits: 10,000-16,000 birr/month gross depending on previous experience and qualifications, plus benefits including health and communication stipend
