Overall Job Function
Provide comprehensive malaria case management support to federal Ministry of Health, Regional Health Bureaus, Regional Laboratories and health facilities under the President’s Malaria initiatives (PMI) funded Malaria Diagnosis and Treatment (MDT) Activity. Reporting to the deputy chief of party, the malaria clinical services director is responsible for overseeing, coordinating and executing planned activities to improve quality of malaria case management across MDT activity supported health facilities in Ethiopia.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible to provide technical supports to the malaria diagnosis and treatment activities in the following areas:
· Provide technical and strategic support to FMOH and RHB in malaria case management related activities
· Provide technical support for the development/review of national treatment guidelines, training materials, provider support tools, and monitoring and evaluation tools to improve malaria diagnosis and fever case management
· Provide technical support for the development/review of mentorship, supervision, clinical audit and quality assurance tools and procedures to improve fever case management.
· Provide technical support to the regional malaria program managers and regional malaria clinical advisors to strengthen quality of malaria case management activities
· Provide technical support for planning and implementation of regional malaria diagnosis and treatment activities
· Coordinate malaria diagnosis and case management in-service and pre-service trainings
· Coordinate baseline and follow up assessment of malaria diagnosis and treatment activities
· Assist and supervise the work of regional malaria clinical advisors and monitor the rollout of malaria diagnosis and treatment quality assurance activities
· Participate in the design and implementation of operational research activities
· Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual plans and activity reports
· Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Experience, skills & minimum required qualifications:
· MD with minimum of 5 years of experience in malaria or other health program management
· Demonstrated experience in development and review of guidelines, manuals, training materials, different tools, etc
· Demonstrated experience in team leadership and management
· Demonstrated experience in conducting trainings, supervisions, and mentorship
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, associates, other department directors, managers and external stakeholders
· Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
Travel Requirements
· Approximately 50% travel to supported regions and health facilities.
