Job Summary/Job Purpose
The purpose of this job is to handle court cases and Represent ECX in courts, quasi-judicial and administrative organs, organize and facilitate arbitration proceedings, provide advice on legal issues to the concerned organ of the Exchange, investigate any breaches of internal rules, regulations and laws and recommend action to be taken.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Prepare legal briefs, statements of claims, defense, arguments, and testimony in preparation for presentation of cases and submit for approval;
2. Represents ECX in Judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative organs;
3. Follows-up implementation of court decision and submit progress reports to the Chief General Counsel and to the Manager of Litigation and Arbitration;
4. Conduct research and offer advice on a variety of legal issues to different organs of the Exchange;
5. Provide responses to questions, requests for information of stakeholders, and when appropriate, comment regarding the law to the interested party;
6. Set arbitration proceeding in motion and assist and facilitate proceedings and implementation of arbitral awards;
7. Prepare and update roster of arbitrators,
8. Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and quarterly reports on the activities of the division;
9. Organizes and keeps files and records of court cases, investigation cases and other related documents;
10. Assist in planning the work of the division and perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor
Required Skills
· Excellent negotiation and persuasion skill,
· Excellent skill in handling arbitration tribunal,
· Excellent verbal and written communication,
· Excellent report writing, problem analysis and problem solving skills,
· Demonstrated honest, integrity and the highest level of professional ethics,
· Demonstrated ability to prioritize division’s activities, meeting multiple deadlines and working independently with minimum supervision,
· Skilled on working with Microsoft Office applications.
Minimum educational requirement:
LLB/LLM Degree from recognized Higher Education Institution.
Minimum work Experience Required:
2 years for LLM and 4 years for LLB;
Preferable:
Practical experience working as judge, or Prosecutor or Law instructor or Attorney with demonstrated skills in adjudication, supervising trials or conducting litigation in civil, criminal and labor benches or quasi-judicial organs and Proven skills of presenting arguments in courts or Quasi-judicial organs.
