Description
Alive and Thrive(A&T) is an initiative dedicated to reducing death, illness, and malnutrition caused by sub-optimal infant and young child feeding. During its first phase (2008-2014) the initiative aimed to increase rates of exclusive breastfeeding and improve complementary feeding practices in three countries – namely Ethiopia, Bangladesh and Viet Nam. As part of its current phase (2015-2020) the initiative is translating lessons to other countries and regions including South East Asia, India and Burkina Faso. is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and the governments of Canada and Ireland. The initiative is managed by FHI 360.
A&T has recently been awarded a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) to strengthen the institutional and human capacities required to achieve the Government of Ethiopia’s ambitions for nutrition as articulated in their National Nutrition Program (NNP 2) and their National Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture Strategy (NNSAS). Under this grant, A&T seeks to strengthen the capacity of the agriculture and livestock sectors to incorporate nutrition-sensitive actions into agriculture and livestock programs and policies.
Job Summary / Responsibilities
The Senior Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture Advisor will be responsible for providing strategic support to the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources (MOA) and the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries (MOLF) in areas of nutrition-sensitive agriculture policy, multi-sectoral coordination and capacity building. S/he will also provide technical support in the area of promotion, production and consumption of animal source foods among others nutrition sensitive agriculture interventions mandated as per the responsibility of the ministry in the National Nutrition Program II.
The position is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
