Background
National Information Platforms for Nutrition (NIPN) is an initiative of the European Commission supported by the United Kingdom Department for International Development and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The initiative aims to strengthen national capacity to manage and analyse information and data from all sectors which have an influence on nutrition and to disseminate and use the information so as to better inform the strategic decisions countries are faced with to prevent undernutrition and its consequences. The Delegation of the European Union is funding a project to set up a National Information Platform for Nutrition in [country]. The project is being implemented by [contracting organisations], in partnership with [partner organisations] and in collaboration with [other organisations involved]. A Global Support Facility (GSF) has been set up by the European Commission to coordinate the NIPN initiative, managed by the Agrinatura alliance and hosted by Agropolis International, in Montpellier, France. The GSF will provide support to the NIPN team in [country] throughout project implementation.
Main duties and responsibilities:
The [recruiting organisation] is seeking a Public Health Analyst to work on the NIPN project. The job is to undertake reviews of existing information derived from reports, evaluations and research papers to help answer the questions posed by the NIPN advisory committee. These questions will be related to the role and impact of policies, programmes and interventions in all sectors to improving human nutrition and to tracking changes in nutrition indicators and factors that may influence nutrition over time and in space. The work of the Public Health Analyst will be guided by the Senior Policy Advisor and the Senior Analysis Advisor to the project and may be undertaken in collaboration with technical advisors from sectors working on specific analysis projects. The Public Health Analyst will consist in collecting published literature as well as grey literature made of project reports, evaluations and studies that could shed light on the relationship between policies, programmes and interventions in any sector that may contribute to better nutritional outcomes for the population, from the country and from other countries as well, if relevant. The Public Health Analyst will systematically review all documents and extract and summaries evidence of the impact on human nutrition and public health more generally, of the efforts by government and development partners to prevent malnutrition and improve indicators of human development. A fully referenced narrative report on each topic will be produced in collaboration with the teams of the NIPN Policy and Analysis Units.
Detailed description of duties and responsibilities:
Undertaking systematic reviews of the literature on topics related to efforts in all sectors to improve human nutrition; including health, agriculture, food security; water and sanitation, social protection and education; Searching for and obtaining copies of reports of policy documents, programme evaluations, reports and surveys conducted by any agency in [country] of relevance to human nutrition; Searching for and obtaining copies of reports of evaluations, programmes and studies in other countries of relevance to the topic under review; Developing relationships with staff of United Nations agencies, NGOs, and universities in the fields of nutrition, agriculture, social protection, WASH and education to receive the latest reports and documents of relevance to nutrition, so developing a network of key informants; Methodically searching databases such as PubMed, PubAg, AGRICOLA and AGRIS for papers and reports of relevance to the topic under review; Creating an electronic archive of indexed reports and documents with support of the Data Manager so that they can be searched; Maintaining a library of policy documents, reports and papers; Writing reviews of what is known about specific issues derived from a thorough review of the national and international literature; Preparing presentations on the information found about the issue or question posed for analysis by the advisory committee; Meeting the needs of Senior Advisors to the project for information and reports.
