The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) was launched in April 2010 and recognized by an Act of Parliament (Proclamation No. 783/2013) as an independent body mandated to provide, inter-alia, evidence-based policy advice to the Government and other stakeholders. Its major activities include undertaking consensus studies, conducting convening activities such as public lectures, conferences, workshops and symposia on issues of national priority; as well as promoting science, technology and innovation.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Lead Librarian will be responsible for leading the establishment of the library and managing the day-to-day operations. The Lead Librarian will also guide the identification and collection of library materials and develop innovative library management system to ensure a dynamic and globally connected environment and an effective library service delivery.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Lead Librarian will be responsible for guiding the establishment of the Library and oversee the general operation. More specifically, the Lead Librarian will:
Develop and maintain innovative management systems for selecting, acquiring, cataloguing, classifying, circulating, and maintaining Library materials in accordance with international standards and best practices;
Regularly scout for, acquire, catalogue, code, and categorize Library materials as per the developed guidelines;
Guide the display arrangement, dis/charging and maintenance of library materials and carry out regular inventory;
Manage the activities of the Library within the agreed budget and available human resource;
Delegate tasks to, guide and supervise assigned staff to the library
Establish and maintain relationships with external libraries and other kindred organizations to collaborate on collection of materials and ensure knowledge exchange and up-to-date information system;
Participate in editing publications of the Academy and in developing concept notes for potential projects as assigned by the Executive Director;
Produce quarterly, bi-annual, and annual performance reports to the Executive Director of the Academy.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Job Requirement
EDUCATION/TRAINING
MA/BA in Library Science or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Above 4 years of relevant work experience.
TECHNICAL AND OTHER SKILLS
Knowledge of the principles of library science in classifying and indexing books and reference materials;
Knowledge of the standard rules and regulations governing libraries;
Ability to correspond with publishers, borrowers and donors;
