Background
For over 30 years the Life & Peace Institute has worked in the Horn of Africa to strengthen the voice of people affected by conflict and support solutions from the bottom up. In 2014, LPI signed a host agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia to open its regional office to engage in continental and sub-regional policy affairs and to effectively facilitate and oversee its projects in the Horn of Africa Region from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In 2017-2020, the Horn of Africa Regional Programme (HARP) of the Life & Peace Institute will advocate for human-centred, participatory and evidence-based regional responses potent enough to “disrupt” the perpetual cycle of states’ responses to the region’s human security challenges. Through HARP in 2017-2020, LPI will contribute to improved policies and actions on strategic regional issues affecting human that will lead to a reality where all people in the Horn lead lives of peace and dignity, where human security needs are met, as a result of inclusive and transformative policy engagement.
We are looking for qualified candidates to fill the following position:
Position: Finance Officer
General Objective:
The Finance Officer is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day accounting & financial activities of the LPI Addis Ababa Regional office. S/he will work under the supervision of Administration & Finance Manager and work closely with other administration and programme staff.
Main Responsibilities
· Assist in payroll preparation and disbursement processes
· Assist in VAT reimbursement request and follow-up process for USAID funded projects
Education and Experience
· Bachelor degree (BA) in Accounting and/or Finance
· A minimum of 5 years relevant experience (after BA) in a non-profit organization, preferably an INGO
· Knowledge and experience in major donors such EU, USAID, SIDA-financed programme and projects is desirable
· Excellent command of both spoken and written English and Amharic languages is mandatory
· Excellent computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant accounting software and Excel required. Experience in web-based accounting system would (preferably SUN system and Xledger …) be a plus.
· Knowledge of internationally acceptable accounting standards and standard office administrative practices and procedures
· Knowledge of major donors requirements

Terms of Employment: The position is full time, fixed term one-year contract (renewable based on performance and availability of fund).
Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Domestic and international travel may be required.
Salary and benefit: Based on the organization’s salary scale and benefit package, competitive and commensurate on qualifications.
