Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia is seeking a Youth and Gender Advisor to provide technical leadership and management for its programs portfolio in Ethiopia that aims to strengthen the health system at all levels to support the governments’ Health Sector Transformation Plan. The candidate will provide technical oversight and strategic program development and management assistance for all programs’ gender and youth initiatives. The Advisor will develop a youth and gender strategy for the organization and adapt/develop training material and tools for use in community and service level interventions. In addition, the position will oversee the implementation of a sexual and reproductive health project with a strong emphasis in youth and gender. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in Ethiopia and with gender integration in the health sector, including conducting gender analysis and providing technical support. The position is based in Addis Ababa Country office with 20% travel in the country.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Program Implementation
· Provide technical leadership and support in gender equality, female empowerment, and male engagement across all program areas; Provide technical backstop in Youth and Adolescent Reproductive Health to all projects
· Oversee and coordinate gender initiatives at the federal and regional level, including gender mainstreaming; gender analysis and integration; response to gender-based violence (GBV); gender-related training and communication materials.
· Analyse country situation to identify opportunities on gender and youth for new programme development
· Liaise with partners working on youth and gender, to ensure that the work of Amref Health Africa in the regions is aligned and support regional and government priorities
· In collaboration with the M&E unit, work on research agenda on youth and gender across the organization
· Support the development and/or review of program work plans, quarterly, biannual and annual reports for selected SRH and WASH projects with an emphasis on youth and gender
· Oversee the development of activity-based budgets and facilitates and monitors ongoing budget management for selected SRH projects with an emphasis on youth and gender
Representation and Coordination
· At the request of the Head of Programs or CD, represent AMREF with the Ethiopian government, UN agencies, other donors, Ethiopian civil society organizations and partner NGOs
III. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
· Demonstrated understanding of best practices in promoting gender equality and youth-friendly health policy, programs, and service delivery
