In Ethiopia GIZ has been implementing development programmes on behalf of the German government for over 40 years jointly with our national partners. The focus of our work in the country is on vocational education, sustainable use of natural resources, land management and food security, biodiversity and forestry. Further programmes enhance the development of a sustainable textile sector and renewable energies.
GIZ-SURED (Sustainable Use of Rehabilitated Land for Economic Development 2018–2020) will be focusing on the economic development and sustainable utilization of rehabilitated areas. Against this background, GIZ Ethiopia is looking to recruit Senior Regional Advisor for GIZ-SURED ISFM Project as specified:

A. Responsibilities
• In coordination with the ISFM+ Deputy Component Manager and SURED Regional Manager ensure the successful implementation of ISFM+ activities at regional level and the achievement of IFSM+ objectives and indicators
The Senior Advisor performs the following tasks:

• Ensure that the ISFM+ implementation builds on and interacts closely with activities carried out under the GIZ-SURED program
• Represent the ISFM+ component at regional level
• Liaise with government, NGO and private sector stakeholders in the region
• In close consultation and coordination with partners, contribute to the planning and implementation of project activities
• Ensure successful and cost-effective implementation of ISFM+ activities at regional level according to agreed plans and time frames
• Provide technical backstopping / coaching to partner organizations
• Plan and coordinate regional planning and feedback workshops with project partners and stakeholders
• Coordinate and contribute to ISFM+ regional M&E activities
• Identify training needs, prepare, plan and implement relevant training courses and workshops
• Identify opportunities for the creation of community-based income generating activities or small businesses related to soil fertility management
• Ensure the incorporation of gender aspects in the planning and implementation of ISFM+ activities
• Contribute to the development of innovative implementation procedures and of new project ideas
• Identify, document and share best practices and innovations
• Regularly inform and update the SURED Regional Manager and ISFM+ Deputy Component Manager on work related matters
• Perform other duties as required
Required qualifications, competences and experience
Qualifications
• MSc in Agriculture or Natural Resource Management
Professional experience
• At least five years post graduate experience in a rural development context with government and NGO stakeholders.
• Expertise in soil fertility management and applied research a strong plus.
• Working experiences with NGOs desirable
Other knowledge, additional competences
• Excellent knowledge (spoken and written) of English and Amharic, knowledge of local languages is a strong plus
• Proven capabilities as trainer including participatory training methodology, planning and evaluation of training events.
• Very good working knowledge of standard computer applications, especially Power point
• Excellent communication and presentation skills targeting different audiences
