Organizing and ensuring medical consultations to the target population providing treatment to patients within the scope of his/her medical competencies and referring them when appropriate, according to MSF protocols, procedures and the universal hygiene standards in order to guarantee quality and efficiency of the service provided. |
Accountabilities |
|
• Ensuring the implementation and standardization of MSF clinical policies, tools, and hygiene protocols in order to minimize clinical risks and to guarantee the quality of patient care management. Promoting and maintaining confidentiality regarding all patient cases and records • Implementing diagnosis, prescription and prevention procedures that fall under the scope of his/her competencies applying medical knowledge, asking appropriate questions to patients and following protocols in force as well as using laboratory services when necessary, in order to ensure a correct implementation of the medical treatments and to refer patients when appropriate. • In cases of emergency, carrying out first aid care and treatment according to protocols in order to reduce mortality rates • Recording in the individual patient’s card and registration books, all performed medical activities (drugs prescribed, lab results, vaccination status, epidemiological activity, doses, etc.) keeping data traceability in order to ensure patients treatment continuity • Participating in data collection and reporting when required • Knowing and implementing Patient Therapeutic Education (PTE), i.e., keeping contact with all patients, providing them information regarding their health state and responding to their questions

· In collaboration with the medical doctor responsible performs psychiatric consultations of new cases and re attendances providing appointments accordingly, ensuring proper diagnosis and rational/appropriate treatment is given accordingly · Performs regularly home visits with the COAs ensuring that the patients are followed up properly in the community to take their medication and to understand their home environment · Does ward round consultations in collaboration with the Expat Medical Doctor responsible (Medical Activity Manager) and nursing team leader discussing therapeutic orientations with the department supervisor/manager, renewing prescriptions and ensuring they are followed and systematically evaluating patients’ symptoms to adapt prescriptions and/or therapies for their relief · Ensure the correct administration of medications, including injections, during the admission period and monitor the results of treatment, reporting to the department supervisor/manager. Contribute to support the patients daily in improving their self-sufficiency during ward admissions, assisting them in understanding the nature of the psychiatric disorder and accepting the need for treatment, encourage patients to participate in motivational intervention/psycho-educative/rehabilitative activities in collaboration with mental health team and clinical officers, managing unstable and acute patients, applying 'de-escalation' techniques when needed · Provide information to patients and their family/caregivers regarding pharmacological treatment, adherence and patient’s mental health illness · In collaboration with other medical team members monitors actively patient’s condition, taking active measures to avoid harming to themselves or others, participating in the handover reports of the shift in collaboration with In-Patient Department (IPD) nurses and clinical officers and checking on patient appetite and food/drink intake on spot · Implement and follow at all times hygiene rules, procedures and protocols, as well as look after the integrity of medical material and other equipment, in order to ensure the safety and protection of patients and other staff · Work in close collaboration with the MSF mental health team (psychologists and counsellors) to ensure a comprehensive package of mental health care for all patients, and to give input for the mental health awareness and de-stigmatization activities · Collaborate with other departments and other actors within the project intervening in support of other services when needed, in order to support the overall MSF project with his/her expertise and capabilities · Carry out administrative procedures and documents (fill in of patients files, forms, statistics, database, etc.), in order to have updated and correct information about the day-to-day activities · Participate in data collection and reporting of the activities · Supports other medical services whenever needed, and works particularly in close collaboration with the outpatient, the inpatient and mental health department according to his/her position · Is the reference person for psychiatric problems within the health facility? · When applicable train other medical staff in psychiatry related issues · Performing additional tasks given by supervisor that is related to his/her competencies

Education | Specialisation as psychiatric nurse or Health officer psychiatry and valid professional licence is essential |
Experience | Essential 2 years of previous supervised work experience as a psychiatric nurse

Languages | Essential english language Mission local languages knowledge would be an asset. Knowledge of Nuer language is an added advantage |
