Background:
CRS Ethiopia is seeking a Shashemene-based Climate Change/Environment Officer for the Ethiopian Livelihoods and Resilience Program (ELRP), a five-year USAID Office for Food for Peace (FFP) Title II Development Food Security Activity (DFSA). ELRP focuses on building resilience to shocks, enhancing livelihoods and improving food security and nutrition for rural households vulnerable to food insecurity. ELRP operates in Oromia Region as well as Dire Dawa administrative unit.
Job Summary:
CRS will hire a Climate Change/Environment Officer, to be based in Shashemene to work closely with implementing partner Meki Catholic Secreteriat, (MCS). The incumbent will lead capacity building efforts for both the local implementing partners and relevant woreda government institutions in the areas of ‘climate smart’ agriculture and sustainable management of natural resources. The incumbent will also have interface with Mercy Corps Livestock/Rangeland Management staff. Through facilitation of training and increasing access to resources, the incumbent will help communities prepare for climate-related shocks such as droughts, allowing them to save money, grow food surplus and rehabilitate their local environments. The incumbent will have experience in community-level training initiatives, eco-hydrology and sustainable agriculture
