Background
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission, the National Communication Officer will be responsible for planning the Mission`s overall communication activities and enhance the Mission’s visibility.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1. In coordination with units compile stories, draft and edit news stories for the IOM Addis Newsletter, “The Migrant”,
2. Write news articles for the Mission’s website and update the website with relevant information in coordination with the IT department.
3. In Coordination with Heads of Unit and the Head of the Mission, compile, draft, edit and ensure the timely submission of the periodic reports for IOM Special Liaison Office (SLO) Addis
4. Serve as a Deputy Secretariat to the Communication Group of SLO Addis. Draft annual work plan for communication activities of the Mission and coordinate its effective implementation.
5. As the Mission’s Media Focal Point for local and international press, coordinate coverage and publicize SLO Addis events, launches and reports in coordination with the Head of Mission. Prepare press releases and briefing notes for press conferences; organize press conferences on different themes of projects run by the mission in coordination with project Coordinators and/or respective units;
6. Participate in regular communication meetings including the UN Communication Group meeting;
7. Ensure proper and regular distribution of IOM visibility materials to partners, diplomatic missions and other relevant institutions in Ethiopia;
8. Co-organize and plan all events of SLO Addis including the annual Migrant’s Day on 18th December based on the theme of the year, in coordination with Unit Heads;
9. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Mission/Supervisor.
