Overall job function:
Under the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) funded Malaria Diagnosis and Treatment (MDT) Activity, the biomedical engineer is responsible for strengthening of system for biomedical equipment maintenance. Reporting to the deputy chief of party, the biomedical engineer is responsible for planning and executing activities to improve biomedical equipment maintenance across MDT activity supported health facilities in Ethiopia.
Major Responsibilities:
· Support strengthening of the national biomedical equipment maintenance capacity
· Provide technical support for the review of the national equipment standardization guidelines and essential biomedical equipment list
· Provide technical support for the development of biomedical equipment maintenance training resources, job aids, and SOPs
· Conduct assessments of project supported health facilities and biomedical schools
· Provide hands-on practical mentorship and supportive supervision to regional- and facility-based biomedical engineers and technician
· Provide technical support for developing specifications, installation, calibration, repair, and verification of performance of biomedical equipment and systems in supported health facilities
· Provide in-service and pre-service trainings on biomedical equipment maintenance
· Assist in development and implementation of biomedical equipment database
· Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Education:
· BSC in Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline
Minimum Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:
· Minimum five (5) years of experience in medical laboratory equipment maintenance.
· Demonstrated technical expertise in development and review of guidelines, manuals, training materials, tools for biomedical equipment management
· Demonstrated experience in conducting trainings, supervisions, and mentorship.
· Demonstrated experience in providing technical assistance and capacity building for regional- and facility-level staff and local partners.
· Prior experience in mentoring and advising biomedical engineers.
· Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to multi-task.
· Fluent English oral and written communication skills; ability to interact professionally in English.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
Travel Requirements
· Approximately 75% travel to supported regional biomedical centers and facilities.
