Background:
The Ethiopian Academy of Sciences is established with the objectives of advancing scientific knowledge in Ethiopia and providing evidence-based advice to the Government of Ethiopia on issues of national importance. One of the constraints in advancing scientific knowledge and evidence and in the formulation of evidence-based policies is the unavailability of information in a language that is accessible to policymakers, academia, the media community and the public at large. When it comes to population and development, a key limitation is the lack of consensus on local terminologies/ local lexicons (to be) used when discussing pertinent concepts in the field. To contribute to addressing this limitation, EAS in partnership with Population Reference Bureau, has produced Amharic – English glossary of terms and concepts in the disciplinary domain of population and development.
