Being an employee of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Ethiopia the Communication Officer is expected to represent NRC in a responsible manner and always act in accordance with NRC’s Code of Conduct.
Background:
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is present in five regions in Ethiopia, providing refugees and internally displaced people with emergency relief and help them to rebuild their lives. NRC works within the sectors of Education, Shelter, WASH, Livelihood and Food Security, ICLA (Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance), and Child Protection.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The Communications Officer will gather, produce and disseminate quality communications products – both for internal and external use and social media.
General responsibilities:
· Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
· Ensure proper filing of documents
· Promote and share ideas for improvement
Specific responsibilities:
· In collaboration with the Regional Office develop a basic communication strategy for NRC Ethiopia
· Produce, package and publish strong communications products such as photos, text and video around key priority areas of programme and advocacy with a focus on social media;
· Produce infographics, maps and other visuals for use in internal and external communication;
· Promote, advocate and raise awareness around NRC’s activities, results, initiatives through a variety of communication vehicles (online platforms, use of photos, infographics, etc.).
· Build strong personal relationships with core local journalists in the region to establish trusting and reliable connections with key Arabic national and regional news organizations;
Monitor, collect and provide daily updates on news in Ethiopia.Professional competencies:
