About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade:
The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.
The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
Australia’s humanitarian program provides assistance in both protracted crises and sudden onset disasters. The Horn of Africa (including South Sudan) is a primary focus of Australia’s humanitarian assistance program. The Humanitarian Officer will help coordinate Australia’s response to the humanitarian crisis in South Sudan and surrounding countries, working closely with the United Nations, Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and bilateral donor partners.
About the position:
Under the direction of the Second Secretary Political (South Sudan), the Humanitarian Officer will coordinate Australia’s humanitarian program in South Sudan in partnership with governments and other partners. Monitoring and reporting on Australia’s humanitarian commitments will be a focus of the position.
