Self Help Africa-Ethiopia (SHA) is an International NGO that operational presence in Ethiopia since 1984. The organization works with smallholder farmers, farmers associations, cooperatives, unions, and agri-businesses to help farmers grow more and sell more, improve their diets, diversify incomes and make their livelihood more sustainable and resilient to external shocks.
Purpose:
A Community Development Facilitator (CDF) in the Milk Value Chains Development project will primarily be responsible for providing local grounding and technical content support to the day to day implementation of the project activities. The Development Facilitator will work closely with the local community, woreda sector offices, Milk cooperatives and other key stakeholders along the value chains including cooperatives, farmers unions, traders, wholesalers and others.
The ideal Livestock/Animal Production Community development Facilitator would possess a passion for improving the lives of smallholder farmers, have deep familiarity with Ethiopia’s livestock sector with extensive knowledge of important systemic issues in, for instance, feed, genetics, and animal husbandry. In addition, the Development Facilitator should have a hands-on experience in selected value chains development, including milk.
Key Responsibilities:
Implement the day to day activities of the project;
Participate in projects identification, development, appraisal implementation & monitoring and evaluation;
Produce and submit monthly progress report to the project manager;
Makes a regular field visits to monitor project activities;
Regularly collect data from project target beneficiaries on the number project activities delivered to project HH, inputs supported , result secured and record on database template;
Provide and /or facilitate different livestock production, quality milk production and handling, storing and marketing, feed technology trainings and other technical support to farmers/milk coop members etc. in collaboration with woreda stake holders;
Assist in coordinating, organizing and conducting package training, workshops, field days, exchange visits in line with the project action plan;
Establish good working relation with project beneficiaries, milk producers coops and woreda sector offices;
Perform other duties as assigned by the project manager;

Job Requirement
Knowledge and Experience
At least 5 years of experience in a similar post, preferably in NGO environment
Qualifications/Other Requirements
Essential
Minimum of BSc degree in Animal/Livestock production and management, value chains, specifically on dairy or milk value chains
Knowledge of current agricultural marketing systems, value chains and livestock in Ethiopia;
Experience in working at community/grassroots level;
Knowledge of participatory methodologies, analyses, actions and results processes
Good communication and facilitation skill and working with partners at woreda level;
Basic skills and experience in use of computers and common office applications;
Fluency in the local language Afan Oromo, AND Amharic and English are essential.
Desirable
Experience in the following areas are desirable
Actively engage in the identification, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting of project activities with a view to livestock and pasture management.
Ability to build relationships with people;
Facilitate animal feed and fodder production and management practices, including pasture and water management as these relate to the livestock industry
Motor bike driving experience is an asset
Willingness to travel nationally
