Amref Health Africa is an international non-profit organization that was founded in 1957 in East Africa, seeking to provoke healthcare improvement of significant importance in Africa. Its Headquarters are based in Nairobi, Kenya, and it also has country offices in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Senegal, South Africa, and Southern Sudan.
Although Amref Health Africa has been formally registered in Ethiopia in 1998, a full-fledged country program with a country office started in 2002. Since then, the country program has grown from one project in Addis Ababa to over 25 projects in seven regions (Addis Ababa, Afar, Oromia and Southern Nation, Nationalities and People Region, Amhara, Benshangul Gumez and Gambela). Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia is working in health development with the motto of lasting health change in Ethiopia.
Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia strongly believes that there is an acute gap between vulnerable communities and the formal Ethiopian health system. To contribute towards closing the gap, Amref Health Africa has chosen to act in a holistic and integrated way, focusing thematic areas: (1) WASH, (2) RMNCH (3) CD/NCD (4) Nutrition and including cross cutting HRH, Health system strengthening. Currently, Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia is working a pilot project focusing on sanitation marketing, and Agriculture, rural development and Transformation in Gambella, Region.
The consultant(s) should have mixed skills in public health, economics, hydrogeological studies, engineering and social sciences and should have undertaken similar and complex evaluation more than two years. Consultants shall demonstrate deep understanding of livestock and WASH impacts and poses the following competencies:
1. The Lead consultant should be a well-grounded, public health specialist with excellent research, monitoring and evaluation skills. The consultant shall preferably have deep understanding of WASH programming, economic dimensions of water and sanitation with previous experience in simulations of water and sanitation demand and market formulation and Agriculture.
2. The consultants should demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relationships between WASH, livelihood and the importance of women economic empowerment in the overall community development.
3. The team members (consultants) should have a minimum educational qualification of a Master’s degree in public health, economics, hydro-geology, hydraulic & water resource engineering and social sciences or related area from recognized universities. The aforementioned mix of skills is compulsory for the purpose of this assignment.
4. An overall understanding of WASH and Public & health sector policies and systems.
5. Proven experience in conducting participatory qualitative and quantitative evaluation studies using mixed methods with superior analytical skills.
6. Excellent analytical and report writing skills.
7. Excellent written and spoken English
8. The consulting firm must demonstrate their tax compliance status at the time of bidding.
