for hiring Communication Consultant for READ CO
1. Background
READ Community Outreach (READ CO) is a project implemented by Save the Children with financial support from USAID. The project is being implemented through Implementing Partners (IPs) and Save the Children as implementer as well. The purpose of the project is to improve reading skills of lower primary school children through support offered by the project in and outside of schools. The Implementing Partners (IPs) working in partnership SC are ADA in Amhara, TDA in Tigray, OWDA in Ethiopia Somali. Save the Children is implementing READ CO activities in SNNPR and Oromia.
READ CO has approached to its final six months and hence documentation of project impacts, lessons, success stories, challenges, etc. in digital and hard copies and sharing to donor and stakeholders is given priority in FY’19 plan. READ CO has done several activities related to communications such as production and distribution of posters, broadcast of media messages, printing and distribution of project briefs and brochures, use of social medias such as Workplace Facebook to share READ CO impacts and lessons, development and sharing of success stories etc. However, there are still many activities which need the involvement of communications consultant for 3 months.
2. Scope of Work
READ CO looks for a full time consultant who can work independently and deliver specific activities assigned to him or her. He/she will be responsible to develop several digital and print products which can be documented and shared to Donor, government stakeholders and other NGOs. He/She is also responsible to coordinate different meetings with stakeholders and donor.
3. Duties and Responsibilities of the consultant
The following are specific tasks of the consultant:
· Prepare standard presentations to USAID and other partners on READ CO lessons learnt, in collaboration with project staff.
· Design and launch READ CO external Facebook page (Closed group)
· Post READ CO impact and lessons on READ CO FB page once every week
· Develop/produce short videos on READ CO impact
· Share READ CO Project impact, successes, lessons learnt etc. on Save the Children Ethiopia Facebook and YouTube sites.
· Review and editing of READ CO Success stories
· Design READ CO Success Story Book
· Support production of READ CO documentary video and Photo book
· Support design and re-printing of READ CO posters
· Development/Update/Design and print project briefer, brochure, booklet
· Facilitate compilation of READ CO project materials & documents
· Support distribution of READ CO document softcopies in CDs for RSEB/ZED/WEOs and other NGOs
· Organize learning and sharing meeting for other donors and NGOs
· Facilitate distribution READ CO project booklet to donors and NGOs
· He/she will make sure that project communication materials meet the project’s Branding and Marking standards/guideline.
4. Duration of Contract
The contract period for the consultancy is 3 months (70 Working days) from August 20 to November 23/2018.
5. Line Manager: Chief of Party. He/She will also closely work with Gender, Inclusion & Communication Specialist and other project staff.
6. Expected Deliverables
· Prepare 6 standard presentation to USAID in collaboration with project team
· Design/launch 1 READ CO Facebook closed group page
· Post/share 16 READ CO impact and lessons learnt messages/updates/stories/testimonials etc. on Facebook
· Produce 3 short videos on READ CO impact and lessons and share on YouTube.
· Review/edit 15 READ CO success/case stories
· Design 1 READ CO Success Stories Book
· Redesign 21 READ CO Posters and make ready for re-printing
· Facilitate 5 stakeholder and donor meetings and provide reports
· Redesign and Update 1 READ CO project briefer, 1 project brochure and 1 booklet
· Compile/documentation of 25 READ CO project materials & documents with CDs and other storage materials.
· Facilitate distribution of 50 CD documents and 50 READ CO booklets to Government stakeholders, Donor and other NGOs
7. Responsibilities of the organization
· Provide Working area/office seat
· Provide Laptop computer
· Provide assistance, guidance and supporting documents
· Facilitate payment on time
Qualification and Experience
· 5+ years in related consultancy work experience in the national context with a Master’s degree, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
· 5+ years proven Experience and Competence in Desktop Publishing tools, design and image processing software i.e. Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign automation.
· Relevant Bachelor Degree in Art/Fine Art, Communications Design, Media Arts, Print and Digital Media Management and Visual Communication and Design or relevant diploma in graphics Design.
· Proven Experience working on social media, news and story writing.
· Two-Five years of experience as communications person in a major publishing or media agencies.
· Fluency in both written and spoken English is required.
