Summary Scope of Work:
The Regional MNH Advisor will manage a project funded by the Child Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) which aims to improve the quality and uptake of antenatal care. The Regional MNH Advisor will provide high level expertise and guidance Health Care Providers and Health Extension Workers in project implementation woredas. In collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and respective Regional Health Bureaus, the candidate will help introduce an alternative service delivery model call Group ANC in the targeted sites. The candidate is also expected to work with a team of Harvard University researchers that will be working to determine the impact of a combined package of Who-recommended antenatal care interventions. The Regional MNH Advisor will also collaborate with Jhpiego staff in planning, organizing and conducting capacity building trainings to health care providers in the assigned health centers and health posts. ). She/he is also expected to document best practices, lessons learned and communicate project implementations to stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:
· Manage the day-to-day activities of the ENAT project in assigned implementation sites
· Provide leadership and strategic direction to Health Extension Workers, Health Development Armey (HDAs) and other health workers within the assigned and targeted sites
· Ensure that all ENAT activities are being implemented in line with the projects objectives, timeline and expected outcome.
· Responsible for coordinating all activities with the Harvard/Addis Continental Team
· Orient and train Health Extension workers and Health Development Armey (HDAs)on how to identify pregnant mothers early;
· Manage consistent and continuous refresher trainings to Health Extension Workers and other health workers
· Organize and ensure that Group Antenatal Care (G-ANC) is being undertaken consistently with the collaboration of Health Extension Workers and HDAs.
· Monitor and observe how Group Antenatal Care (G-ANC) is undertaken and ensure proper G-ANC guidelines are followed and implemented
· Participate in operational planning exercise, workshops, and other key meetings
· Ensures the delivery of high quality Group Antenatal Care (G-ANC) service to pregnant mothers as per the Antenatal Care national protocol
· Document lessons learnt and challenges in the implementation of Group Antenatal Care (G-ANC) and propose possible solutions
· Organize on the job training, refresher training and training of trainers courses with Jhpiego Ethiopia team
· Conduct monitoring visits and track service delivery data
· Compiles and submits monthly activity reports
· Coach and mentor Health Extension Worker and Midwives working at Antenatal Care (ANC) unit and at community level
· Ensure Health Centers (HC) and/or Health posts (HP) are well equipped with necessary supplies
· Manage and ensure that each pregnant woman is provided with the needed service at every project site
· In collaboration with the M&E Point person ensure all activities are monitored continuously
· Make sure that all necessary reporting and documentation are executed in a timely fashion
Knowledge Management/Knowledge Sharing
· Document activities performance and share to relevant stake holders (Health Post and Health Center level)
· Information and relevant best practices in the areas of assignment
· Learns and adapts best practices in the areas of Group Antenatal Care (G-ANC)
Required Skills, Attitudes and Attributes:
· Able to work independently and to initiate Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) related activities
· Passionate about Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) activities in particular in increasing Antenatal Care (ANC) uptake and quality of services in the community
· Deep understanding of policies and guidelines in the area of Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) mainly Antenatal Care (ANC) service provision
· Strong knowledge of Antenatal Care (ANC) and related standard documents
· Good interpersonal/communication skills and a strong team player
· Strong motivation to support the community by ensuring quality service provision at Health Center and Health Post level
· Strong writing and reporting skills are a must
· Interested to work in selected program implementation woredas and zones
· Proficiency in speaking, writing and reading language of assigned region
Required Education and Qualifications:
· BSc. in midwifery with MPH as a plus
· Five years Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) related services mainly at Antenatal Care (ANC) , Labor & Delivery (L&D), and Postnatal Care (PNC) unites
· Experienced in community services in close collaboration with health extension workers
· Work experience in NGO is advantageous
· Computer literacy is required
