The British Council commissioned research into the creative industries and visual arts sectors in Ethiopia in 2014. Further sense checking of the findings in relation to planning and designing the action was undertaken in July/August 2015 consulting with key stakeholders and sector specialists.
Main barriers to growth identified by stakeholders included finance and lack of opportunity for showcasing. Through this research, the following objectives for Creative Futures were established:
Overall objective: To contribute to the socio-economic development of Ethiopia through the development and increased capacity of the creative industries.
Specific objectives:
1. To improve the capacity of professional creative practitioners, creative leaders, and organizations/associations in the image sectors to enhance their contribution to the development of the creative industries in Ethiopia
2. Increase the promotion of Ethiopian arts and improve networks of Ethiopian professional creative practitioners in the visual arts and design sectors nationally and internationally.
