Christian Aid (CA) was established in 1945 by the British and Irish churches. Currently, CA works in over 40 countries, with over 550 partners, worldwide. Christian Aid has worked in Ethiopia for more than 30 years, initially responding to emergencies, but gradually establishing a long-term development programme, to facilitate thriving, resilient and equitable communities.
Christian Aid in Ethiopia has four strategic focus areas. These are resilient Livelihoods, Climate Change, Market Development and Humanitarian Response. CAE has also other strategic issues such as strengthening the organization, communication and campaigns, fundraising and supporter relations which are being dealt with as cross-cutting issues.
Role purpose
Christian Aid is bidding to run a large markets programme in Ethiopia, working with refugee and host communities in three regions – Jijiga, Gambella and Dollo Ado. Christian Aid is recruiting three Regional Programme Managers, one for each region, who will be based in the respective region and lead the implementation of the regional components. This role will include managing a small programme and support team in the region, and will ensure effective management and development for the programme and appropriate support for partners. The postholder will be expected to develop and maintain strong relationships in the region with consortium partners and external stakeholders, in order to mobilise capacity and resources towards programme objectives. As this is an adaptive programme, the postholder will have a key role in planning and development of interventions in the region.

Role context
Christian Aid is bidding to run a large markets programme in Ethiopia, working with refugee and host communities in three regions (Gambella, Dolol Ado, Jijiga). The programme aims to increase sustainably the net economic returns to refugees and host communities through both increased gains and decreased losses. This will be an adaptive programme that seeks to draw on research and learning to determine the development of programme interventions.
The role has responsibility in one region for programme quality control, reporting and compliance, programme development and convening regular programme review and reflection sessions with consortium partners and other stakeholders. The postholder holds overall management and responsibility for continuous strategic analysis of the security and the humanitarian context of the respective field office.

Applied skills/knowledge and expertise
