Ensure observance and respect the dignity of beneficiaries, careers and members of the community at all times.
With Refugee central committee and ARRA, select beneficiaries with their previous experience and skills in agriculture; with their will, motivation and; values and mission of the organisation, etc. Women should be granted priority among beneficiaries as they are the main household stakeholders for nutrition.
Train care group mothers as community mobilizers on sack-garden preparation and maintenance, traditional and non-costly methods of disease and pest control, income generation from the sale of surplus production.
Care group mothers will train selected beneficiaries: they will ensure community ownership and sustainability of the programme. At the end of the training course, beneficiaries are encouraged to prepare 3 sacks per family.
Identify appropriate land for the setup of demonstration farms.
Select seedlings prior to distribution, according to their agronomical particularities (productivity, resistance, maturation length, compatibility with local conditions, etc), and to their nutritional and economical value.
Use vegetable crops which have a short maturity period and long-term benefits.
In parallel to the training of beneficiaries, selected will be planted, to be ready for transplantation after 3 to 4 weeks.
Use sacks with central stone wells rather that sacks with horizontal layers of stones and soil: the first ones allow growing plants on the sides of sacks too, thus increasing the sacks’ productivity.
Give priority to vegetables that people are familiar with. For the introduction of new vegetables, make sure that people like the taste and know how to use them (cooking demonstrations and basic information on nutrition is necessary).
Seedlings ready to be transplanted will be distributed only to beneficiaries who had prepared their sack gardens according to the training provided. Regular watering, monitoring of the sack, pests and disease control will be ensured by the community mobilizers.
For leafy vegetables, only cut lower leaves leaving the top ones for continual growth.
Train beneficiaries to harvest vegetables with short span twice a month, although other species have a shorter span.
Use leafy vegetables that keep on growing even after the leaves have been harvested (e.g. kale, spinach, leafy onions, etc).
Ensure that hygiene and good sanitation is practised especially near the seedbeds to reduce the risk of plant contamination.
Encourage beneficiaries to collect their own material to assess their motivation and intervene when collection is too difficult or expensive.
Consider water used after domestic consumption and harvesting and storage techniques, to allow watering the gardens even in summer without depending solely on water vendors.
For monitoring and evaluation, ensure that community mobilizers are adequately trained in data collection interpretation of information received from the beneficiaries.
Upscaling centre based, house hold & community-based education about maternal nutrition & IYCF by nutrition promoters
Participate in IYCF Framework implementation (e.g. orientation, training, referral, message development & distribution, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS
BSc in Plant science, Agronomy, Horticulture or related fields with demonstrated experience and specific knowledge in vegetable gardening.
At least 2 years’ NGO experience in livelihood and agriculture projects in refugee camps.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
Experience working with private sector, government agencies and beneficiaries on livelihoods programs.
Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as the proven ability to work collaboratively with many organizations and stakeholders.
Experience of implementation programs (nutrition related), including monitoring and evaluation
Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff
Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions
Ability and willingness to frequently travel and stay at the field
Demonstrable ability at report writing and excellent communication skills
Relevant experience in Refugees Camps context is a plus
Good organization skills and multi-tasking ability
Strong public relation skills and good communication
Positive attitude and collaboration toward other team colleagues
