Program Description
In an effort to address the critical underutilization of community based services, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has invested in the “Optimizing the Health Extension Program” (OHEP) Project in Ethiopia through partnerships with UNICEF and PATH. UNICEF and PATH will work collaboratively in support of the Government towards the same objectives and with a common work plan.
London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in partnership with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI), and Jimma, Mekelle, Hawassa and Gondar universities have created the Dagu project, in response to the foundation’s request to: “estimate the impact of the program, ensure the validity of the approach, and provide ongoing support to UNICEF and PATH to ensure that the initiative is being implemented according to plan with ongoing monitoring of evaluation activities for the programme improvement and operational adaptation”.
The Dagu baseline survey aims to measure care-seeking behavior and treatment for suspected pneumonia, diarrhea, fever, and neonatal sepsis prior to the implementation of the “Optimizing the Health Extension Program” interventions. Now it is the time to conduct endline survey, that is planned to happen from December 2018 and January 2019.
Therefore, Ethiopian Public health Institute (EPHI) would like to hire project staff at field level on contractual basis for the project Applicants who fulfil the following qualifications and selected for the vacant spaces will work under the supervision of the Dagu team at EPHI within the Health System and Reproductive Health Research Directorate.
Scope of work:
The Communications Officer will be a member of the core IIfPHC-E team operating under the supervision of the Executive Director and in close collaboration with other members of the core team. She or he will be responsible for the implementation of IIfPHC-E’s communications and for collaborating on outreach activities both at national and international level. Specifically, the officer will be expected to:
§ In all three languages, develop and disseminate internal and external high quality, broad range communication materials both printed and electronic including but not limited to Institute’s success stories, photographs, and videos.
o Generate social and digital marketing contents that align with the Institute’s identity and message and ensure that they are periodically updated.
o Coordinate outreach activities for dissemination of IIfPHC-E messages.
o CoordinateIIfPHC-E participation in international events.
o Design and implement media campaign for each specific project of the institute.
o Draft press advisories, press briefings and press release.
o Develop and manage IIfPHC-E website content, newsletters and related on-line tools.
o Develop effective relationship with media personnel to coordinate interviews and monitor media coverage.
o Coordinate and plan activities with partner’s media networks.
Terms of employment: Four month contract with possible extensionbased on performance
Place of work:Mainly inAddis Ababa, however travels in Ethiopia (rural setting) and within African Countries is expected
