Background
As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives.
In Ethiopia, GIZ has been working for more than 40 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and on commission of the Ethiopian government and international donors.
GIZ Ethiopia is looking to recruit an Advisor on Land Use Planning and Policy for theSupport to Participative Integrated Land Use Planning and Policy (SPILUPP) Project specified below.
Position: Advisor on Land Use Planning and Policy

Responsibilities:
The main duties will be:
Tasks:
Land Use Planning and Policy
§ Sustainable development of peri-urban space;
§ Shared use of geo data within existing capacities and initiatives;
§ Procedures and responsibilities in NILUPP with the implementation of land use plans taking environmental issues into account
§ Support activities in relation to land consolidation
§ Keep the respective partners fully informed on programme activities, results and problems through regular monitoring and reporting;
§ Organize and participate in workshops and seminars as assigned;
Communication and Networking
§ Maintain a good and effective communication between the project’s partner organizations, GIZ, relevant public institutions, state organizations and NGOs;
§ Communicate, both orally and in writing, with colleagues and professional groups through briefings, technical and operational reports and presentations;
§ Assists in and/or carry out other tasks given by the Project Manager as assigned

Qualifications and Experience:
Qualifications
§ Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Land Management and Administration or related fields;
Professional experience
§ Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in advisory services in an international or national organization that has allowed exposure to a range of agricultural development programs and land use planning initiatives;
Other knowledge, additional competences
§ Competence in handling GIS software, in particular Quantum GIS (QGIS), and able to interpret and process satellite pictures (Sentinel, Landsat, Rapid Eye);
§ Willingness to live and work in Addis Ababa and travel often to various regions and field sites;
§ Familiarity with bureaucratic requirements of regional governments;
§ Good communication skills, in both written and oral English and Amharic;
§ High degree of initiative, integrity and accountability;
§ Good general computer skills (email, word, excel);
§ Good interpersonal skills and team spirit;
