Program Overview:
The five-year READ II project, funded by USAID, will boost the quality of literacy instruction and student support, reaching out to children at risk of failure and dropout caused by cognitive, emotional and physical effects of hunger, violence, and displacement. READ II seeks to better equip teachers with effective early grade reading instruction techniques and materials in seven mother-tongue languages and English, while simultaneously building a culture of reading in the school, home and community.
Position Locations: Oromia Region (1); Hawassa, SNNPR (3, one for each of the following languages - Hadiyyisa, Sidaamu Afoo, and Wolayttaatoo)
Position Summary:
The Reading Specialist provides technical support for Grades 1 to 8 Mother Tongue and English teachers and reading and writing instruction-related coaching and mentoring in two READ II target regions (Oromia and SNNP). The Reading Specialist liaises with Colleges of Teacher Education on in-service training related activities and coordinates technical elements of programming related to the use of ICT in teacher professional development and support to learners with special needs. The Reading Specialist further provides technical support on across the READ II programmatic areas.
Reporting & Supervision:
The Reading Specialist reports to the Regional Director in the region of assignment and works under the technical leadership of the Senior Reading Specialist.
Primary Responsibilities:
Regional Reading Specialists are expected to travel up to 40 percent time.
