The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training.
In collaboration with universities in the US, Emory University and New York University AHRI has planned to conduct a study on understanding the immune signatures to characterize progression to active TB disease. The study is planned to involve a number of health facilities, particularly health centers in Addis Ababa and enroll quite larger number of active TB patients and their household contacts. The study is funded by NIH, USA for a period of 3 years. The project involves both field and laboratory activities. The Role of the Project Coordinator (Program Operations Coordinator):
The Project Coordinator (Program Operations Coordinator) shall be based at AHRI and work closely with the project PI and the core team at AHRI and collaborating institutions in the US on the overall coordination, management and implementation of project plans, including (but not limited to) regular follow-up and management of the overall project plans, financial preparation, planning and follow-up of the overall field activities and office tasks related to the project, planning regular meetings to discuss progress activities within the project and other related activities.
Specifications for the position:
Personal Specification: Essential Skills and Experience
- MPH in Public Health; MBA in Project Management or Business Administration is plus with 8 years work experience and background (BSc) in Public Health sciences from an accredited institution
OR
- BSc in Public Health; BA in Project Management or Business Administration is plus with 10 years work experience
- Experience in doing, coordination or management of health research
- Experience in grant/project management
- Timely preparation of financial reports
- Strong administrative and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Training/experience in quality control/assurance
Personal Attributes:
- Personal training/skills in the required position
- Excellent interpersonal communication skill and proficient English skill
- Strong computer literacy (MS office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet use)
- Strong organizational skills
- A high level of attention to details
- Ability to work with others/team work, including international collaborators
- Open for discussion and learning
- Ability to problem solving
- Well organized; flexible to working off-working hours or weekends as needed

Principal Responsibilities:
· Facilitate the implementation of major project deliverables and activities
· Closely work with the project PI/core team, field coordinator and lab coordinator to execute the smooth conduct of the project
· Provide administrative assistance and support to the overall project
· Identify challenges and facilitate discussion to solve problems
· Follow and prepare regular technical and financial reports as needed
· Assist with revising the implementation plan regularly as needed annually
· Execute additional duties as may be assigned by the PI/core team to meet the objectives of the project
Terms and Conditions:
1. Gross Salary: ETB 23,800.00
2. Hours of Work: Are governed by the laws of Ethiopia. However, the nature of the work is such that it might require working late hours and weekends
3. Length of Contract: This is a 3 years post, subject to annual contract renewal
