PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The USAID funded READ II is a five year project lead by Creative Associates with a subcontract to EDC to improve the reading proficiency of 15 million children by 2022, with a focus on six target regions. The project will focus on three main areas of intervention to achieve its goal to improve students’ reading fluency and comprehension: 1) improving classroom reading and writing instruction, 2) strengthening community engagement in education activities and 3) improving leadership, management and delivery capacity at each administrative level. This position falls under goal 3.
Position Summary:
The Reading Specialist provides technical support for Grades 1 to 8 Mother Tongue and English teachers and reading and writing instruction-related coaching and mentoring in two READ II target regions (Amhara and Tigray). The Reading Specialist liaises with Colleges of Teacher Education on both pre-service and in-service training related activities and coordinates technical elements of programming related to the use of ICT in teacher professional development and support to learners with special needs. The Reading Specialist further provides technical support on across the READ II programmatic areas.
Reporting and Organizational Relationships:
The Reading Specialist reports to the Regional Director in the region of assignment and works under the technical leadership of the Senior Reading Specialist and Pre-Service Teacher Training Specialist.
Primary Responsibilities
Regional Reading Specialists are expected to travel up to 40 percent time.
