Shaping a stronger Oxfam for people living in poverty
Background
Access to latrine facilities are limited in most of the IDP sites in Somali region and people are practicing open defecation. To tackle this hygiene and sanitation problem in the IDPs as well as in the community in siti zone, where IDPs have already started integrating with host community, Oxfam designed project to address this lack of access to latrine facilities and awareness of the community and IDPs in Siti zone, Somali Region.
As part of this project, Oxfam will work with the local government and partners in reducing the open defecation practice through community consultation, using participatory approach, and involving communities in constructing their own latrine with material support from Oxfam.
Team Purpose
The project management unit (PMU) team will lead and ensure the rolling out and effective implementation of the rural water supply utility operation and maintenance model and also the promotion of hygiene and sanitation work of UNICEF funded project in the Somali region.
Job Purpose
The Public Health Promotion (PHP) Officer is expected to contribute assessment and result dissemination in relation to hygiene needs that will target mainly reduction of WASH related disease outbreak including AWD, or any other public health related diseases that can spread as well as building the capacity of the communities and the IDPs. Particularly, the work requires providing and/or or supervise the provision of technical support and assistance to the programme within an area of specialisation specifically, working with communities and Public Health Volunteers/ Community Health workers/ Mobilisers at local level, encouraging good hygiene practices amongst IDPs communities residing both in concentration centre and within host community. Train the community and health extension workers in the aspects of health promotion and disease prevention methods; regular monitoring of project implementation and preparing activity reports.
