Assessment on psychosocial stressors and traditional coping mechanisms
1. Background and context
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and migrants. The organization has offices across the region, and has been operational in Ethiopia since 2009.
With funding from bilateral and multilateral donors, DRC is currently implementing a range of activities across Ethiopia and Djibouti, including WASH and shelter provision, child and youth protection, gender based violence response, awareness-raising of migration risks, protection monitoring of migration routes, and livelihoods support for returning migrants or those at-risk of migration.
DRC started operating in Dimma in February 2015 and is currently implementing Child Protection, ECCD, SGBV, Youth Empowerment, Livelihoods, WASH and Shelter programs
DRC Dimma Area Office is currently implementing a youth empowerment program through the provision of psychosocial support through two youth friendly spaces where recreational, skills building and educational activities are undertaken; Another important component of the program is the facilitation of vocational and skills training and scholarship opportunities for refugee youth in collaboration with ARRA and UNHCR
2. Purpose
The above consultancy is expecting to inform DRC’s Youth programming in Dimma area office of Gambella region. Additionally through a comprehensive capacity building and mentoring plan that the consultant will provide DRC expects to be able to address more efficiently the psychosocial needs of both female and male youth through the Youth friendly spaces.
The consultant will be responsible and accountable for designing, conducting and preparing a report regarding the psychosocial stressors and traditional coping mechanisms of youth in Dimma, Gambella region.
The consultancy includes furthermore the capacity building for DRC protection staff on IASC MHPSS Guideline and Psychological First Aid
3. Key Responsibilities

3.2. Methodology
The Consultant will use context-specific methods and approaches in conducting the assessment, which includes but not limited to focused group discussions and key informant interviews. He will work in coordination and collaboration with the pertinent stakeholders, including field staff, the local community and others, as deemed necessary in consultation with the Deputy Area Manager Supervisor

4. DRC’s responsibilities
DRC will assist in making travel arrangement (booking of flight ticket and accommodation) from Addis to Dimma and on road travel from Jimma to Dimma and return.
5. Reporting Arrangements
The consultant will report to the Deputy Area Manager, who will be the focal point for any coordination and communication with DRC.
6. DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT
The duration of the consultancy is four months from 1st December 2018 to 31st March 2019
EXPECTED PROFILE OF CONSULTANT
The consultant must have;

TERMS & CONDITIONS
The Consultant will spend 60% of the time in the youth friendly spaces in the camp working closely with the DRC staff and refugee social workers. 40% of his/her time will be dedicated to conduct the assessment
