ROLE PURPOSE:
The child protection officer will ensure the implementation of Save the children’s child protection program within Centres in Gedeo zone, ensuring that all potential child protection target groups are reached in a safe and protective environment.
JOB SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
· Lead the overall implementation of emergency child protection project to achieve its planned deliverables
· Serve as primary child protection project focal person at Gedeo IDP emergency response and in Dilla protection cluster.
· Serve as knowledge hub through the documentation and sharing of best practices, lessons learnt through project implementation.
· Human resource planning, team building and staff performance management and capacity building for child protection program staff.
· Budget management and budget holding responsibility for child protection projects as assigned by the line manager.
· Prepare DIP, phased budget, procurement plan, review the project work plan, implement and monitor child protection activities and ensure that program objectives and activities are in line with in the context of Save the children, values, aims and objectives.
· Ensure that all IDP children are benefited from the child protection services and follow up of the day-to-day activities of Child Friendly Spaces and youth program (youth center), follow up the day today activities of child led clubs and community based child protection committees.
· Ensure necessary attention is given to children of concern through the provision of case management, referral services, material and other psychosocial supports.
· Play key roles in coordinating and supervising child protection related activities and in coordination with implementing partners.
· Produce and submit quality and analytical periodic reports to Save the children, protection clusters, government and donor organizations.
· Share information on the progress and challenges of emergency child protection program activities with Save the children program staff and line manager. And protection clusters as necessary.
· Organize capacity building training for child led clubs, social workers, volunteers, CFS facilitators, child protection committees and other community based structures, community members/representatives, foster parents, and vulnerable children to build their resilience.
· Ensure the consistent, proper and confidential documentation and case management system for UASC and other vulnerable children.
· Take measures and recommend directions to improve the quality of child protection works and to maximize the benefit children should get from it.
· Follow up the proper functioning of the facilities availed in the CFS and youth center and elsewhere by Save the children to render services in the principle of value for money.
· Conduct robust need assessment, inform line manager on the proposed action, and prepare timely and emergent response plan based on the need assessment finding.

Performance Indicator
· Implementation of emergency child protection program activities within the IDP camps.
· Timely and effective monitoring and evaluation of program activities
· Documentation and experience sharing of progress and challenges
· Timely and proper utilization of the allocated budget for the emergency child protection response.
· Coordination with government office, UN agencies and Implementing Partners including IPs with a complimentary role to main stream child protection services.
MINIMUM QUALFICATION AND EXPEREINCE
· Bachelor’s degree in Sociology or other Social sciences
· Minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar role
· Excellent written and spoken English language skills
· Experience in working in refugee camps in the area of child protection
· Willing ness to live in stressful and hardship area and to work extra hours.

· Highly developed verbal and communication skills including fluency in English
