Organizational Overview: The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) associated with former President William J. Clinton’s Foundation is currently operating in Ethiopia carrying out a wide range of programs to support the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia in improving the health status of the country by ensuring access and quality of health services. We are committed to increasing our effectiveness through an innovative programming approach that optimizes quality, impact, and scale. Being the largest CHAI field office worldwide, we currently employ over 170 people in the following multiple programs: Maternal and Neonatal health, HIV Access, Cancer Treatment Access, Nutrition, Child Survival, Lab Services, Vaccines Introduction, Global Health Financing and Human resource for Health (HRH).
CHAI is building on its work on HIV, TB and malaria treatment to support ambitious new efforts to scale-up access to essential child medicines. CHAI is particularly focusing on driving scale-up of commodities to treat diarrhea and pneumonia which kills millions of children globally every year. Working with the governments of high-burden countries including Ethiopia and leading global institutions, CHAI will support intensified efforts at both global and country levels to plan, resource, and implement effective interventions for scaling-up these products.
With FMOH, PFSA and RHB; CHAI Ethiopia has been implementing an Essential Medicine/Child Survival program since last three years to address key drivers of child mortality with focus on improving access to live saving commodities. The program is positioned to address the challenges based on priority services delivery areas of Child health through optimization of procurement supply chain management in collaboration with the government of Ethiopia with focus on pneumonia and diarrhea. As such, reducing pneumonia and diarrhea morbidity and mortality in under- 5 children in Ethiopia through sustained availability of life saving commodities has been the key focus with this CHAI program.
