HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation in Ethiopia has the following three vacancies in the programme management of its portfolio of projects. The programme evolved from a focus on agriculture and rural infrastructure (trail bridges and water supply systems) towards a broader programme including support projects for natural resources management, especially in marginal areas, capacity development of local governments, rural infrastructure interventions, mainly the trail bridge programme but also in sustainable WASH services, and education and skills development for youth in small towns as well as in refugee camps. Emergency response was recently added as new working area. HELVETAS operates mainly in three regions; Oromia, Amhara and Tigray. Main Tasks:
The SIE Senior Expert supports the HELVETAS programme in (a) in defining its focus on value chain development, market system development, responsible private sector development, innovative rural advisory services and financial inclusion, (b) promoting inclusive market system development and value chain facilitation in particular for domestic market development and certified agricultural and livestock value chains, and thereby (c) contributing to sustainable production systems (including water management) and food security. The SIE Senior Expert leads learning across the projects and facilitates knowledge exchange with stakeholders and partner organizations.
Qualification, experience and essential skills:
Master’s Degree in Agriculture Economics or related field with at least 8 years relevant experience in development cooperation. Sound knowledge and experience in agricultural value chain and market systems development, financial inclusion and inclusive economic development. Coaching and mentoring of other professionals on (local) economic development and private sector development. Proven experience in leading strategic inclusive planning and budgeting processes. Track record in networking and policy dialogue with government and external support agencies and working on public-private development partnerships. Excellent English writing skills. Strong motivator and mentor/coach with good reporting and writing skills (English). Result-oriented personality meeting deadlines with conceptual and analytical strength. Possessing a clear goal orientation combined with pragmatism and able to work in teams as well as independently. Strong competence in cross-sector communication (in particular good listener and advisor).
