The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) was founded in 1970 through the initiative of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations seconded by the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. The Institute got its name from the Norwegian physician, Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who first described the leprosy bacillus (Mycobacterium leprae). AHRI is a biomedical research institute that works in developing tools for prevention, control and treatment of mycobacterium and other diseases of public healthy importance through applied and basic biomedical research and training. Since 2017, AHRI is collaborating with Lund University, Sweden, in field research with a research site in Adama.
AHRI would like to hire qualified candidate in the position of Assistant Researcher.
The role of the Assistant Researcher
The Assistant researcher shall be based in the Lund University Adama research site and work closely with the project researchers on the overall coordination and proper and timely follow-up of a prospective cohort.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Duties include all aspects of the cohort study procedures, including but not limited to: physical examination and structured interviews of study participants (women, children and infants), assistance in collection of biological samples, giving comprehensible information to study participants on their rights and benefits, phone follow-up interviews, timely entry and cross checking of data, and monitoring for specific research outcomes. Assistance to research project on pregnancy and child related diseases and conditions, at health facilities in the Adama uptake area. Follow rules and regulations and submit to the local team leader as well as responsible PhD. students and investigators.
Education & Experience: - MSc in Health Management OR
- BSc in Health Management with 2 (two) years work experience
- Registered Nurse or Health Officer
Personal Attributes:
- Personal training/skills in the required position
- Excellent interpersonal communication skill and excellent English skill
- Communication skill in Afan Oromo
- Strong computer literacy (REDCap and/or MS office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet use)
- Strong organizational skills
- A high level of attention to details
- Ability to work with others/team work, including international collaborators
- Open for discussion and learning
- Ability to problem solving
- Well organized; flexible to working off-working hours or weekends as needed
- Willingness to take up additional responsibilities and continuous training as needed

Principal Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the implementation of major project deliverables and activities
- Closely work with the project/research team, field coordinator and lab coordinator to execute the smooth conduct of the project
- Provide administrative assistance and support to the overall project
- Identify challenges and facilitate discussion to solve problems
- Follow and prepare regular technical and financial reports as needed
- Assist with revising the implementation plan regularly as needed annually
- Execute additional duties as may be assigned that is consistent with the nature of the job and its level of responsibility
