SOS Children's Villages Ethiopia is a non-governmental, non-political, non-denominational charitable child welfare organization. For the past 43 years, we have been working to build families for children in need, help them shape their own future and share in the development of their communities. Everything we do is based on the best interest of the child. We help vulnerable families care for their children, and we work to prevent the breakdown of parental care. When children lose their own parental care, we provide quality alternative care. We support young people in their efforts to become independent adults and succeed in life.
As the organization works to build families for children, it also address the issue of family breakdown and separation resulting from economic problems and lack of parenting skills. In line with this, the organization employs family and community development strategy to create capacity at family and community levels and thereby prevent child abandonment and neglect in the country. In cooperation with local authorities and other service providers, we work directly with families and communities to ensure children grow in a safe and protected family and community. The organization is currently operational in seven Children’s Villages program locations namely; Addis Ababa, Hawasa, Bahir Dar, Gode, Jimma, Mekelle and Harar.
SOS CVE strongly believes that parenting plays significant role in shaping children’s holistic development. Good parenting skills and practices have positive impact on children’s education performance, socio- emotional, cognitive and other dimensions of development. To this end, the organization has been working to build parenting capacity of caregivers.
In order to build up on the existing experiences, SOS CVE would like to deliver a more well-thought-out parenting skills training to caregivers based on interactive training and coaching manual. The parental skills development manual will support families to develop child caring capacity. Each family is supported to become self-reliant in the care of their children as part of the overarching family development planning process. The manual will be based on SOS Children’s Villages FSP Program approaches of family capacity building and will serve as a guide to community facilitators and co-workers. For this reason, SOS CVE would like to hire experienced and competent consultant/consulting firm to develop parenting skill training manual and facilitate TOT.
