Background
The Eastern and Southern Africa Higher Education Centers of Excellence Project (ACE II) is a world bank supported innovative regional higher education operation targeting 8 countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. The Project seeks to collectively address a set of key development challenges facing the region through interventions in developing critically-needed science and technology capacity.
Scope and Objectives of the ACE project
The objective of the Project is to strengthen selected Eastern and Southern African higher education institutions (ACEs) to deliver quality post-graduate education and build collaborative research capacity in the regional priority areas.
ACEs under Addis Ababa University
Addis Ababa University has obtained competitively three ACEs that are based in two of the colleges and one institute of the university: College of Health Sciences, College of Natural and Computational Sciences and Addis Ababa Institute of Technology.
The Centre for Innovative Drug Development and Therapeutic Trials for Africa (CDT-Africa) aims to address the development challenge associated with poor access to medicines while the African Centre of Excellence for Water Management (ACEWM) deals with water security. The Africa Centre of Excellence for Railway Engineering (ACERE) aims to build capacity relevant to transport security.

Addis Ababa University is now looking for a full time monitoring and evaluation expert who will support these three centers and the President of Addis Ababa University to make sure that: (1) the centers are expediting their tasks in a timely fashion as per the results-based framework; (2) deliver on their commitment to be models as education and research excellence; (3) beyond achieving their goals as set out in the results framework, the products of the centre are relevant to addressing the development challenges of the country and the region; (4) they are sustainable in the long run.
Summary of Job Content: As the focal person responsible for all M&E activities, the M&E
Coordinator shall work closely with the other AAU- ACE staff members to ensure the M&E system is further developed, implemented and maintained.
Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:
Responsible for continuous development and management of the ACE’s M&E system and Framework which include, but are not limited to:
Duration of Employment: Two years with possibility of extension.
Required Qualification and Experience:
Education: Master’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation and/or project management, economics, population studies, Management Information Systems, or other relevant discipline with demonstrable experience in the use of quantitative, qualitative and participatory methods and data analysis.
Relevant Work Experience: At least five years of professional experience in monitoring and
Evaluation (M&E), experience with World Bank monitoring and evaluation compliance is preferred,
Mandatory: Working knowledge of English and Amharic, with excellent ability to write professionally in both.
