Haramaya University is a partner in the Foodborne Disease Epidemiology, Surveillance and Control in African Low- and Middle- Income Countries (LMIC) (FOCAL) project, co-funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), led by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). This multidisciplinary, international research program will be exploring causes and sources of diarrheal illness in several African countries, including Ethiopia. The project aims at taking a One Health approach that links public health surveillance data with pathogen occurrence data from food, animals and the environment, to provide the best evidence of the health impact, and the relative contribution of different sources for foodborne infections in African low- and middle-income countries.
With this, Haramaya University is pleased to announce the PhD scholarship to those who are interested to do their research in area of foodborne diseaseDuties and responsibilities:
A successful competent candidate will be responsible for all aspects of data collection. A candidate will be assisted by field data collectors, that he will also supervise the operations performed by the assistant to be hired by the project. He/she should be willing to implement the directions and standard protocols provided from the project. Will have the opportunity to work with other Universities of interest. Will have a short term laboratory related stay in project partner country.He/she will be also carry out activities given by the project director.
