Assisting 91.4 million people in around 83 countries each year, the World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. WFP Ethiopia is working with the government and other humanitarian partners to strengthen the resilience of Ethiopia’s most vulnerable population and to chart a more prosperous and sustainable future for the next generation. The Country Office also supports programmes that use food assistance to empower women, transform areas affected by climate change and keep children in school. It aims to contribute to Ethiopia’s five-year development agenda, the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), through which the Government combats food insecurity.
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:
Gambella hosts a large number of South Sudanese refugees in 7 camps namely Nguenyiel, Tierkidi, Kule, Jewi, Pugnido I, Pugnido II and Okugu. A small percentage of the total number of reside within the host community in Akula, and they also receive food and nutrition assistance from WFP. The assistance is provided to the refugees through government (ARRA) and non-governmental partners (NGOs), and includes General Food Distribution, nutrition intervention mainly Blanket and Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programmes and School Feeding Programme. WFP has also initiated small scale livelihood programme which would be scaled up gradually in 2019.
JOB PURPOSE:
The Volunteer/Intern will be under the direct supervision of the sub office’s head of program unit. He/She will contribute to timeliness of programme delivery – meets deadlines and able to work with minimal supervision, His/her contribution should be able to close gaps with minimal interruptions and without affecting programme quality, need to have willingness to work in the field of food security, livelihood and nutrition. and will contribute to overall objective and periodic targets set by the office and catering in the specific duties and responsibilities.
The duration of assignment cannot be more than 8 months. Up on onboarding successful candidate will be given a one-month trial period and offered a Volunteer contract, then the contract will be converted to an intern depending on demonstrated successful performance, adaptability and agility.
